Since I’m reading many people disheartened at the lack of ordering a ceasefire by the ICJ, here’s some info:
The ruling was BIG and far more than many expected. I, for one, certainly did not expect that the German judge ruled in favor of all of the provisional measures, nor that the Israeli judge would rule in favor of some of them. That is absolutely ground-breaking.
This ruling, whilst not final, will change the course of how the international community is going to act towards Israel, because now they are all going to be very careful not to be complicit in what potentially might be ruled as an actual genocide in the merits case (which will likely take years, but that’s how it goes).
Governments and individuals have a face to lose, and the ICJ ruling is one more nail in the coffin of their complicity.
Not to sound like I was raised by protestants, but I think those kids who argue that it’s animal abuse to put working dog breeds to work doing the tasks they were bred and born for have simply genuinely never encountered the concept that they, too, could be genuinely happier if they could do work they found wortwhile and enjoyable. Like engaging in useful and constructive activities might genuinely make life better than a life of doing absolutely nothing because nobody’s making you do anything.
Remember the 6 year old girl who was surrounded by Israeli tanks and the red crescent couldn’t reach her? Her name is Hind Hamadeh. Here you can hear the phone call her 15 year old sister, Layan Hamadeh, made with the medics. She was killed exactly a moment later including all people in the car, except for 6 year old Hind who was stuck in the car with the dead bodies of her family, Israeli tanks and IDF surrounding her, shooting, preventing anybody to reach her.
That was last night (29.1.24). Today, still nothing. The fate of Hind remains unknown.
palestine red crescent ambulance team went to rescue her yesterday evening, but they have not returned as of now. We lost contact with them about 18 hours ago, and we still remain unaware of their fate and whether they succeeded in evacuating her or not.
Please, share Hind’s story as much as you can on any platform. We need to know what happened to her. Put yourself in her place, how terrified she must be. Don’t scroll past this.

in light of israel’s looming invasion on rafah, south africa implored the icj to call for the protection of palestinians with new preliminary orders. the icj denied this request, insisting that its january orders would be sufficient enough in ensuring the safety of people residing in rafah.
we have all seen how israel responded to the icj verdict earlier this month. they have all but intensified their attacks on palestinians, their favorite of whom seem to be children. this will end in a bloodbath. palestinians, already malnourished and living in literal tents, will be bombarded, they will be shot, they will be slaughtered. and when i say palestinians, a lot of them are actual toddlers. the videos coming out of this are proof enough.
at this point, it has been made amply clear that palestinians will never experience safety in their own homeland. a lot of the families in gaza are trying to raise funds to get out of it, because there’s nowhere left to go.
there is nowhere left to go. if these people don’t get the funds necessary to escape, they will die.
it’s vital that you go to operation olive branch’s spreadsheet, choose a family that resonates with you, and donate as much as you can to their gofundme. every last dollar counts. one dollar could be the difference between life and death for a family. please don’t fall victim to the bystander effect. your contribution counts, however little it may be. and whether you’re able to donate or not, spread this to as many people as you can. each second we stay silent is a second an entire family is brutally massacred.
to put things into perspective–just yesterday it was reported that 112 palestinians were killed, and 157 were left injured. in the last 24 hours. this is quite literally time-sensitive down to the last second. i would not be able to sleep at night knowing i lived through a literal genocide and did absolutely nothing about it.
An ex-colleague of mine mentioned yesterday that there may be contacts between Automattic and midjourney in that direction, but nothing is public yet and I don’t have any more info. They probably won’t have anything specific to share either, since they left the company weeks ago too. That being said:
I have no reason to doubt my ex-coworker word, they are a trustworthy person.
Tumblr’s CEO has been absurdly enthusiastic (comically, even) about AI, and is a big fan of LLMs and ‘AI’ companies.
A deal with midjourney could solve tumblr financial issues (not the same company, but openAi is paying up to 5 million/year to news companies to use their content as training data… tumblr generates several orders of magnitude more content than any newspaper or any media company and it only would need a 20 to 30 million per year deal to be profitable)
So I don’t have any extra info yet, but I’m keeping my ears open.
And I just got confirmation from a second ex-colleague that a deal with midjourney has been brewing since months ago. Not any extra details, just that’s a real thing.
Shit, I don’t see any way for this to happen that doesn’t make it an apocalyptic event the size of the porn ban. Fuck.
Even if you don’t post your own art anymore, go back to your old stuff and watermark it.
Do it ASAP, before the deal goes through and the scraping begins.
This will not only protect your art, but has the opportunity to fuck over this deal on a pretty large scale. The more of these posts that are glazed or poisoned, the less valuable this deal becomes for tumblr and midjourney.
it’s very disheartening to see that Palestine or Gaza is no longer the highest trending tag on Tumblr so early on in Global Strike week, especially considering how many people have said they still need to work and buy food (100% valid, by the way). don’t lose momentum. keep talking about what’s happening. keep reblogging and sharing useful resources and information. we need the Palestinian people to know that we see what’s happening to them, we care about what’s happening to them and we stand with them. Percy Jackson and Tumblr Live are no where near as important as the genocide of Palestinian people.

Native children being killed at school is nothing new, so it’s equally important to talk about Nex’s native identity and being intersectional, this is a devastating tragedy for indigenous people, the queer community & especially those of us who are both indigenous and queer.
